How do you demonstrate what it’s like to deliver life-saving help to those in the outback? Give visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world experiences!
This was the thought process behind the latest visitors experience we produced for our long term clients, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, NSW Section. Brandi Projects co-ordinated the fit-out of a mock split fuselage version of their Beechcraft King Air B200 aircraft at the RFDS Dubbo Visitor Experience. An amazing centre where visitors can really interact with what the RFDS does from the ground to the air, outback to hospital. The aircraft experience allows visitors to walk through into the cockpit, see the controls and experience everything that’s happening on a real-life RFDS plane.

Purpose
The overarching goal of the entire Dubbo Base visitor centre is to communicate the resilience, resourcefulness and innovation of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The RFDS can re-enact patient care on the plane. Visitors can also walk into the B200 aircraft and examine the controls, medical equipment and touchscreens. The mock fuselage allows visitors to see first-hand how confined space is inside for the RDFS nurses.
About the build
This unique project was so much fun to design, fabricate and install. We got to really immerse ourselves in the workings of an RFDS plane during construction. The key to success was balancing the much-needed realism of genuine aeroplane parts with fabricated elements. The goals were to produce a useable and safe exhibit which replicated the King-Air aircraft as much as possible.
This resulting exhibit highlights our creativity in cabinetry skills. As well as our ability to recreate elements in fine detail to precise replication. Being a Brisbane-based company who often travels to the outback for Projects, we drew on those skills in distance work for this project. Our experience in delivering quality fabricated work to remote areas and installing exhibits seamlessly is something we have perfected over many years.
The principal exhibition designers were Freeman Ryan Design, who delivered the rest of the displays at the centre, , including the augmented reality in the split fuselage display.
